Cancellation of 2020 Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Austin Health Perioperative Medicine Symposium
Last night the scientific committee met to discuss the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Austin Health Perioperative Medicine Symposium. We made the difficult decision to cancel this meeting inclusive of the workshops in the best interests of everyone’s safety.
The majority of our international speakers are now unable to attend, and whilst most of our local speakers and workshop facilitators are willing to support our symposium, there is a growing sense of heightened concern.
We believe that caution is the parent of safety, and we now have a significant responsibility to minimise any possible risks of exposure to COVID-19 to our delegates, support staff, industry and their teams, and to our speakers. With so much work invested in this symposium over many months, it is a bitter disappointment for all of us.
We will make up for it next year with a better and bigger meeting.
Please note, a full refund for your symposium registration and/or workshops will be given. We are working with our registration partners on the way forward here and we ask you for your patience whist we navigate this.
We will likely run some workshops in the second half of the year and will keep you informed.
Importantly, please save the date for 29 March to 1 April 2021 (the week prior to Easter) for a planned back-to-back 4th World Prehabilitation conference and ERAS-Australia conference.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your support and for understanding the difficult and unprecedented situation we are all in the middle of.
Professor Bernhard Riedel and Associate Professor Laurence Weinberg
